DJÉMBE GROUP COURSE

WEST AFRICAN MUSIC CULTURE

Every Monday evening the Djembe drumming course with Abraham Centeno Correa takes place.

Inspired by West African music culture, Djembé and Doundun are used to train Afro rhythms, technique, groove, solo techniques, improvisation, and rhythmics.

Using an accessible rhythmic language, basics are taught, and small arrangements are structured and conveyed with a focus on the body.

The bass drums, Doundun, and Sangban form the rhythmic foundation for the Djembés, which either play solos above them or engage in communicative interaction as accompaniment.

The course is suitable for beginners and advanced participants.

The instruments are provided by BADABUM Atelier.

The course is also offered to children in schools and social institutions as a process-oriented team-building course.

Holistic support for inspiration and development

Badabum Atelier offers a wide range of services, including transdisciplinary consulting and support for creative processes and biographies. The team supports musicians, bands, and artists in career planning and development, accompanying them on their path to success. Important steps such as personal development, appearance, content, aesthetics, motivation, financing, management, marketing, artistic profiling, and network building are taken into account.

The decision to establish oneself in the music industry requires similar processes to those involved in starting a business or becoming self-employed. Young artists in particular face a variety of challenges. This is where the diverse experience of the experts at Badabum comes into play. Combined with their consulting expertise, individual solutions are developed and implemented.

To ensure that the best possible support is provided, Badabum works closely with external consultants who have extensive experience in designing and implementing consulting services. All those involved are highly motivated to promote creative processes and support the artistic development of musicians and artists.

Price negotiable depending on the size of the project. Please contact us with your request: mail@simonberz.ch for a free consultation. Your needs will be clarified and possible ways of providing support will be identified.

Drum Circle

Rhythm that connects

„Drum Circles are about relationships – a group always has more potential than they realize.“
– Arthur Hull

What is a Drum Circle?

A drum circle is a freely improvised drum and percussion workshop in which people from diverse backgrounds make music together – without prior knowledge, without sheet music, but with lots of joy, mindfulness, and connection.

As a drum circle facilitator, I guide groups in discovering and expressing their natural musicality playfully, intuitively, and in flow. In the circle, connecting experiences emerge that sustainably strengthen health, creativity, and community.

Areas of application and target groups

The drum circle is suitable for:

  • Schools and educational institutions (promoting social skills, music & movement)

  • Team building & companies (focus on collaboration and communication)

  • Clubs, communities, neighborhood projects (community & cultural exchange)

  • Family and leisure activities (multi-generational connection through music)

What makes the drum circle special?

  • Connects people
The shared rhythm creates a sense of togetherness – regardless of age, background, or experience. Everyone is part of the sound.

  • Promotes mindfulness
In a drum circle, you are heard and seen. You become more aware of yourself and others – a mindful togetherness that strengthens you.

  • Strengthens creativity
There's no right or wrong. Improvisation and expression are the focus – every contribution counts.

  • Supports health
Drumming has been proven to have a relaxing, stress-reducing effect and promote both physical and mental well-being.
It is an ancient ritual – and at the same time highly topical.

This is how a drum circle works

Whether in a small group of five or with up to 100 people – we groove together with a variety of percussive instruments:
Shakers, djembés, drums, agogos, tonewoods and much more.

  • There's no previous musical knowledge needed. (Really, not!)

  • All instruments are provided by us and with the BadaBrumm brought to the venue.

  • All participants receive an instrument

  • Duration, setting and group size are flexible – adapted to your needs.

At which locations can the drum circles be held?
Badabum organizes events (almost) everywhere, as there aren't really any restrictions. Acoustics and volume must be taken into account.

  • Indoors: gyms, common areas, hotels, restaurants, exhibition halls, theaters and cinemas, community centers, clinics…

  • Outdoor: lawns, open spaces, gardens, sports fields, parking decks, pedestrian zones…

How much does a Drum Circle cost?
Badabum designs each event individually. We create our proposal after a personal consultation in which we discuss your ideas and offer our solutions.

What else should be considered?

To ensure that the Drum Circle is a joyful and mindful experience for everyone, we ask that you observe the following points:

  • Seating:
Please ensure there is sufficient portable seating on site – ideally chairs or stools without armrests. Benches are also acceptable. Depending on the group size, we will form one, two, or three concentric circles.

  • Careful handling of the instruments:
Our percussion instruments are selected with great care – please treat them accordingly.
👉 We please ask you to, not bring any open food or drinks in the Drum Circle.

  • Remove hand jewelry:
Rings, bracelets or watches should be removed before drumming to avoid injuries and protect the eardrums
